Thought for the day: Live Photos

Ever take a picture of a baby/child/cat/dog/deer/teen/whale and when you take the picture they are looking the wrong way? Or have their eyes closed?

Live Photos fixes this by taking pictures beginning 1.5 seconds before you press the shutter and keeping taking the picture for another 1.5 seconds afterwards.

You can then select the best frames to export as a .jpg or keep all as a short video clip. This is very helpful for certain fields of photography.
Live Photos are available on iPhones and maybe other cell phones. You can sort of get the same effect by taking 20+ frames a second (a number of mirrorless cameras can do this) but this won’t go back in time and uses a lot of extra memory card space. I don’t know of any DSLR or Mirrorless cameras that have this wonderful feature.

This is a really useful and underutilized feature. I wish it was on all cameras, not just a few phone cameras.

SlickPic was created by a group of like-minded photographers and photography-enthusiasts who wanted a service that wouldn't force them to conform to a certain style or niche, but one that would allow them the freedom to use their photos to tell whatever stories they want. They wanted a service that was capable of storing, showcasing, sharing, and displaying photos in all the different ways people use photos: some are meant just for family, some are taken for friends, and some are made for the world to see.
