Quote: “If the photographer is interested in the people in front of his lens, and if he is compassionate, it’s already a lot. The instrument is not the camera but the photographer.” — Eve Arnold

Thought for the day: If you ran the circus…
I mean if you ran photo contests, what categories would you have?
PSA (Photographic Society of America) and many clubs and photo clubs use the following categories:

  • Pictorial
  • Monochromatic (Picture in Black and White)
  • Nature (not landscape)
  • Travel
  • Photojournalism

If you ask the average photographer (not in a club) or person on the street that might pick what they think is most important as

  • Landscape
  • Portrait
  • Street
  • Architecture
  • Night

Note that there isn’t a direct map from one of these groups to the other.  Why the variance?

What five categories would you choose?

SlickPic was created by a group of like-minded photographers and photography-enthusiasts who wanted a service that wouldn't force them to conform to a certain style or niche, but one that would allow them the freedom to use their photos to tell whatever stories they want. They wanted a service that was capable of storing, showcasing, sharing, and displaying photos in all the different ways people use photos: some are meant just for family, some are taken for friends, and some are made for the world to see.
