Thought for the day: Why Dark Video (and Photos) Is A Terrible Blocky Mess
Tom Scott has an excellent video on why dark parts of a picture are blotchy. And why with a bright scene you don’t have this problem. If you recently tried to post-process images of the dark Moon during the max phase of the recent Lunar Eclipse you probably had this problem. Or go take a picture of your car at night with all the lights around you off.
