STAINMORE SUMMIT sign in the NRM York Mon 15 July 2013. This is one of a pair of signs originally located between Bowes and Barras on the Darlington - Barnard Castle - Kirkby Stephen (East) - Tebay line. Until closure in 1962 this was the highest point on the railway in England. This sign is thought to have previously been displayed at Darlington Museum. The fate of it's opposing partner sign is not known.
