Here we stayed on the main island, just a few blocks from Piazza San Marco. From out hotel window, you could spit into a canal (not that we would).

they used to be the only ones allowed to wear stripes per city code. they inherit their license & if someone dies without heir, the widow can sell the license for her support

fortunately the restoration is being paid for by some order of monks because the person financing the work has the right to put ads all over the canvas's & it was tacky when they did
