I met the Plateau Chapter of Tennessee Trails Assn. at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, near Corbin, KY. It was near-perfect early fall day, which really added to the beauty surrounding us. We hiked the Eagle Falls Trail, which took us along a very long "popsicle stick" to a loop - the "popsicle". We took the spur trails to the Cumberland Falls overlook and to Eagle Falls; Eagle Falls afforded access to the beach, i.e. lots of boulder climbing, where I was able to get a few really nice distance shots of Cumberland Falls. After this hike, we had planned to go across the street and hike the Sheltowee Trace South/Blue Bend Loop, but the Eagle Falls Trail turned out to be a lot more rugged, and longer, than employees had lead us to believe.
The Chapter folks - since they had to head back to Crossville anyway - decided to go to, what was described as, a really nice arch and not too far from Cumberland Falls. The hike leader asked if I would be interested in going. I was a bit apprehensive, as I had no desire of making a wrong turn when retracing my drive. I did not need to worry.
We drove at least 20 miles (not too far!) and ended up in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, at the Natural Arch. Wow! Am I glad I joined them! The views were magnificent, and Mother Nature put on a really nice display for our viewing pleasure. There is a loop trail that goes right up to the Natural Arch, so we took that and enjoyed a little more adventure.
Hope you enjoy our trip!
