Joy Johnson and I headed out to Biltmore House, in Asheville NC, to brave the blustery winds and very cold temps. On the way East on I-40, we saw light snow lying in the washes between peaks of the mountains. We saved the house for last and first enjoyed winter's beauty in the garden. Much of our time was spent inside the Conservatory, where we found innumerable types of orchids. In fact, the theme for the house was designed around fresh flowers and woodland findings.
No trip to Biltmore is complete without some of their wonderful ice cream. Yes! Ice cream. Because the shop is for purchasing, only, I asked, "Are you going to make us go outside to eat the ice cream?" The woman cashier said it would be fine for us to stand in the corner. After the ice cream thoroughly chilled us to the bone - as if the wind had not done that - Joy got hot coffee and I, hot chocolate. We took a look through one last shop, then headed home.
For any followers of Biltmore, there is supposed to be a new hotel opening some time in 2014, on the site, that is supposed to be not as expensive as the Inn at Biltmore.
