The high-altitude lake Miniques is located 140 kilometers southeast of the village of San Pedro de Atacama at an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level near the border with Argentina, in close proximity to the CH 23 highway. The water in the lake, which is of glacial origin, is fresh and surprisingly changes its color depending on the lighting from black to rich aquamarine. On the shores of the lake and in its surroundings, you can find numerous representatives of the fauna of the Andes highlands, such as vicuñas, viscachas, gray foxes, flamingos, Andean geese, and Darwin's nandu.
