20130809_115420 (our last day in Sturgis. we leave tomorrow morning. So, we decided to spend the entire day riding. We planned to head down through Deadwood, Lead, south to Newcastle, then back East to Custer, turn south to Hot Springs, then follow a loop back around and north back to Custer again, then continue North up to Crazyhorse national monument, and then follow a scenic route back up to Sturgis. everything was going as planned until we got back to Custer.... a heavy rain and hail storm continued for hours across the Black Hills. We drove back the way we came, and even further West to go all the way around the storm. It worked, but ended up being a long day of riding - about 330 miles...
in this picture, we saw many people already leaving Sturgis Friday morning as we were heading out..)

20130809_175623 (while we were eating, the rain reached us. it rained very heavily and hailed. we put on our rainsuits and headed out. we looked at the radar and it was dark Red north of us but clear back to the west where we came from. We decided to pass on seeing Crazyhorse National Monument and drive west back to Newcastle and see if we could avoid most of the rain.)
