Credit: Nearly all these pictures were taken by fellow-hiker Janosh, who has recently joined our group, bringing with him not only fleet feet, but an enthusiasm for recording our exploits.

Yes it is winter season, but how bare and denuded of vegetation this particular approach has become over the last decade!

The Long Hill - La Larga Colina. About 700' of vertical, it's a daunting slog. Once you conquer this one, from the top it is an easy 1/2 hr hike to Colorado Pk @ 9,045' - and an early lunch at 10:45 am.

What goes up must come down - the Long Hill again. Following behind the far distant speck of white, is a hiker in pain (nameless of course), having just discovered his knees. The white speck is Bill, compassionate of soul, who will often volunteer to take on the task of sweep and ensure everyone makes it back. Bill does not have one blot on his record in all these years of hiking. Let me tell you, there is often a grateful someone who wants to buy him a beer when we eventually get back to the tienda at the end of the day!

Part-way down, a rocky ridge overlooks another trail below. On the left, the bell-shaped pimple reaching up to ~8,000', gives the village below its name: La Campana. The deeply eroded section on the right, we named after a Peruvian desert: La Atacama!
