Challenge 20: Patterns and Textures

/, Inspiration/Challenge 20: Patterns and Textures

Welcome to week 20 of the 2024 SlickPic 52-week Photo Challenge! Thanks for being on the journey, and being committed to improving your skills.

This week’s Challenge is: Patterns and Textures

Photographing patterns and textures is one of the most effective ways to exercise your eye for detail and observation skills. You can find interesting patterns and textures everywhere, both in nature and man-made spaces. They come in different shapes, sizes, and colors, and may stand out on their own or complement the main subjects of your photo.

In this challenge, your job is to make patterns and textures the star of your photos. Look for repeating shapes and elements around you for patterns. Or get close to different objects to translate visually what they feel like — are they hard or soft, smooth or rough?

There are many ways to create visually pleasing images that showcase patterns and textures. If you need some ideas and inspiration, check out these useful guides from Picture Correct, Expert Photography, and Adobe.

SlickPic was created by a group of like-minded photographers and photography-enthusiasts who wanted a service that wouldn't force them to conform to a certain style or niche, but one that would allow them the freedom to use their photos to tell whatever stories they want. They wanted a service that was capable of storing, showcasing, sharing, and displaying photos in all the different ways people use photos: some are meant just for family, some are taken for friends, and some are made for the world to see.
